Accessibility

We have used recommendations from the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) to make the hedgelink website easy to use for everyone. If you have any questions or remarks about accessibility on the website, please let us know.

CSS based design

We have used CSS (cascading Style Sheets) to make the hedgelink website. You can use your own style sheets if you wish. The site stays fully functional with style sheets turned off.

You'll find 'skip to' sections at the top of every page. So if you use a screen-reader you can easily jump to the section that is relevant to you. You'll also find a back-to-page-top link at the bottom of every page. And there is a basic navigation menu in the footer of each page.

Navigation and access-keys

We have done our best to make the navigation simple and intuitive. Every page has a logical underlying structure with navigation before content. There is only one access-key (Alt-0 to go to this page). The site has a natural tab-order which allows you to easily browse without a mouse.

External links

All external links are marked with the external link symbol as depicted here. You can choose to open external links in the same window or in a new window or tab.

Images and alt-text

We use descriptive alt-text for every image in the content of each page. There is no alt-text for any images that are part of the design of the page. The website stays meaningful with images turned off.

Font-size

All font-sizes are scalable. If you want to adjust the font-size, hold the CTRL-button on your keyboard, while scrolling up/down with your mouse (CMD-scroll on if you use a MAC). See your browser's help file for more information (try searching for 'font-size' or 'accessibility').

Colour contrast

The website uses colours that contrast well for everyone, including colour-blind people.

Valid HTML and CSS

All HTML and CSS on the site has been validated.
